"George pestered principal Bro. John O'Donnell almost daily, until he finally agreed to hand over
the statue to the alumni association, with the stipulation that it had to be done in two weeks
or not at all.
Therefore, as director of the Foreign Cemetery, I quickly contacted the cemetery stone mason,
who arranged for a large crane and the necessary equipment and staff
to proceed with the move.

Payment for the work had to be made immediately, and I covered it myself, until
George de Couto of the USA Chapter and Ted Takarada as president of
the Japan Chapter were able to re-emburse the expenses incurred.

Every time I visit the Gaijin Bochi,
I always stop by to say at least one
Hail Mary for all the SJC teachers,
and also for all the alumni
who have gone before us."
